Country Music Artist, Slim Jones, writes a song about Texas

May 29th, 2010 by texasqld4385

Slim Jones, Country Music ArtistCountry music artist, Slim Jones, has recently released a new album called ‘Texas in September’.  This song was inspired by the Texas Country Music Roundup held the last weekend in September.  Slim describes the inspiration for the song as “This song came to me out of the blue.  I was at the Boondoomba Country Music Festival at the time.  A lady came up to me and asked me would I like to go to Texas for their festival.  At first I said no as it was 1250km from home and a bit too far to travel.  “When is it on” I asked “September” she replied.  I thought for a minute or two and said “Texas in September” some how it had a nice ring to it and I said “Why not”.  Thanks to Everlyn Rigney for asking me and I started putting the song together on the way home.”

Slim will be at this year’s Texas Country Music Roundup held on the 24th, 25th, 26th September 2010.

Ford's Family Store

Ford and Lee Kernaghan memorabillia line the store's walls.

The Ford’s Family Store has always been a popular spot in Texas for fuel, gas and take away but due to changes in ownership closed down earlier this year.  However, thanks to a love of Lee Kernaghan, Troy, Vicki and their family decided to visit the Texas QLD from Lee’s song of the same name from his Electric Rodeo album.  After taking a look around the town, they spotted the closed Ford’s Family Store and found that it was for sale.  Fate had sent the family here as they are HUGE Ford fans – what could be better than a business incorporating the name Ford in the town of Texas from Lee Kernaghan’s song!

The store is now open 7 days with food, drinks, gas, fuel, bait, firewood and much more available!

After a few battles the family have made it here and have spent several months getting the store into tip top shape and re-opened mid-August 2009.  The store is now lined with Lee Kernaghan and Ford memorabillia – a tribute to both loves.  The store has been up and running now for a while and is going great guns!  Troy and Vicki are offering a great variety of food, fuel, swap & go gas, dvd rental, bait and fishing tackle, firewood, souveneirs and their own brand of Texan hospitality.  Ford’s Family Store is open 7 days a week, so next time you are visiting Texas make sure you call in and say hello!
