Model T Fords that will attending the Texas 'T' PartyPRESS RELEASE

Model T Ford Owners Group of Queensland

One of the most popular events on the calendar of the Model T Ford Club of America is the annual “Texas T Party”.

To emulate its US counterpart the Model T Ford Owners Group of Queensland is hosting Australia first “Texas T Party” in Texas 4385 Queensland on the forthcoming May long weekend.

Twenty Model T Fords dating from 1909 to 1927 are expected in the Queensland border town one hundred kilometres west of Stanthorpe for five days of rallying and touring the district between Texas and Goondiwindi.

The Club is anxious to contact Model T Ford enthusiasts from western Qld and northern NSW who may like to join the club during the visit to Texas.

The rally gets underway on Saturday morning the 1st May with a display in the town centre from 9 am followed by a drive to the Bonshaw weir at 10.30 before returning to town for lunch at the historic Rabbit Freezing Works.

After lunch local town attractions will be visited including a collection of Model T Ford memorabilia owned by Texas identity Robert Nowland.

The old cars big day out will be Sunday the 2nd when the veterans journey from Texas over 100 kilometres to Goondiwindi via Yetman their morning tea stop.

The Goondiwindi historical assn. guided by Councillor David McMahon will host the T Model visit with a camp oven lunch while the club members inspect the association’s museum’s collection including what is perhaps Australia’s most unusual Model T Ford.

The return run to Texas will be via Yelarbon and the Dumaresq river road.

The Monday holiday will see the cars back at the Rabbit Works for a morning brunch before another local tour. Many of the Model T Fords are staying on an extra couple of days for more Texas hospitality and touring.

Local car enthusiasts are very welcome to catch up with the Model T’s and their owners at anytime during the event and if you have any old Model T bits lying about the farm bring them along and you also may become a member of this exclusive group of people who maintain and enjoy driving the car of the Twentieth century that put the world on wheels.

Texas Qld Inc (TQI), guided by Sally Ridgeway (tourism officer), are catering for the rally.  If as successful as predicted, it may be repeated again.

Bush Bazaar at Goat Rock Shaping Up To Be a Huge Day!

September 29th, 2009 by texasqld4385

Goat Rock will be the place to be on Saturday afternoon, the 7th November.  Mark it on your calendars for a great outing whilst supporting organisations within your local community.  The Bonshaw Country Women’s Association is once again holding their biannual market and fun day.

There will be a multitude of market stalls and displays including plants, cakes, crafts, jewellery, clothing, fresh fruit & vegies, toys, and much more!  The Texas Garden Club will be holding a Flower Show.  There will be plenty of fun and games for everyone to enjoy with the much loved Dunny Lob, Rabbit Trap Throwing, Egg Throwing, Line Dancing Demonstration as well as Sample Bags, Bubble Wands & Face Painting for the kids.  Bush Poet, Jim Brown will be on hand for the afternoon providing his usual great bush poetry.  A Pig-on-the-Spit and Camp Oven Dinner will be on offer with a Bar and Live Music by “Eleven 02″.  The last time these guys played at Goat Rock the dancing didn’t stop until the early hours of the morning!  Texas State School will also be holding a Charity Auction to raise funds for the School.   There will be plenty to keep the whole family occupied.

Remember the money raised by the Bonshaw CWA goes to a number of good causes that require our assistance.  Local community organisations will also be holding stalls to raise much needed funds for their organisation.  If anyone would like to hold a stall or help in anyway please contact Vicki or Amanda at Texas Treats Ph: (07) 4653 0999 or email amanda@goatrock.com.au

“A year at Glenlyon” at the Texas Regional Art Gallery

July 28th, 2009 by texasqld4385

In Texas, we are incredibly lucky to have a fantastic Art Gallery in the main street.  Numerous exhibitions come through each year and the fabulous Texas Arts Council and their volunteers, man the Gallery.  One exhibition that has been bought to my attention is “A Year at Glenlyon”, this exhibition is a chance to see an iconic part of this region in use as inspiration.  Entry to the Texas Art Gallery is FREE so get along and have a look at Simone’s works of art.  There is also an original piece of artwork that will be raffled with the proceeds going to the Texas Hospital Auxiliary – a great community organisation that has raised a great deal of money for our local Multipurpose Health Service.  Have a look below at a snippet from the ‘date reminder’ for “A Year at Glenlyon”.

Simone Peters nee McLeod would love the pleasure of your company in attending her solo exhibition entitled “A Year at Glenlyon” at the Texas Regional Art Gallery – Texas Qld 4385, between the 27th October and the 5th of December 2009.

Inside the Exhibition: Mixed medium incorporating collages of acrylic, wax crayons, coloured inks, washes, coloured pencils and photographic images of the garden at Glenlyon Station and of Glenlyon Dam.

Glenlyon Dam was completed in 1976.  The land acquired to develop the dam was originally settled in 1840 by Archibald Garden, then in 1844 Alexander McLeod took possession of Glenlyon Station, where his descendants lived up till 1996.  Currently the dam provides irrigation up to 500km away, holding 261, 000 megalitres, has a shoreline of 96km and a reservoir area of 1750 hectares.  Glenlyon Dam is also a recreational dam with picnic and camping facilities available as well as great fishing and water sports.
